Sold from 1967 to 2002, the Cougar is the highest-selling nameplate produced by the Mercury brand with 2,972,784 examples produced over its lifetime.
The 2nd-Gen Cougar, of which this car is an example, was built from 1971 to 1973 and was the final version of the Cougar derived from the Ford Mustang.
Even as it shared much of its bodyshell with the Mustang, the 2nd-Gen Cougar began to move away from the plush pony car stereotype to incorporate its own unique aspects of both sports cars and luxury cars.
This solid Cougar is powered by an H-code 351 Cleveland' V8 paired to a 2-barrel carburetor.
H-code 351s were equipped with a cast-iron crankshaft, two-bolt main bearing caps, forged-steel connecting rods, cast-aluminum pistons, non-adjustable valve train, and cast-iron intake and exhaust manifolds.
All H-code 351 Cleveland engines used small port 2V heads with open combustion chambers.
